AquataPoxy used in Panama Canal for 15 years

The construction of the Panama Canal was one of the largest, most difficult and spectacular engineering projects ever undertaken. The canal, which spans nearly 51 miles, has had an enormous impact on shipping between the Pacific and Atlantic, and has transformed economies worldwide.

The AquataPoxy® line of coatings and grouts have been coating and patching the locks and dams of the Panama Canal since the early 1990’s. In some of the most severe salt and freshwater marine environments, AquataPoxy epoxies have been used extensively to patch deteriorated concrete and steel in both atmospheric and underwater applications. AquataPoxy’s good UV resistance and quick return-to-service and ability to bond and cure underwater provide valuable infrastructure protection and renewal service to Panama’s most valuable asset.

The canal has been enormously successful since opening, and continues to be a key conduit for international shipping. It has eliminated more than half the distance of the previous 14,000 mile route around Cape Horn. Some 13 to 14 thousand vessels use the Canal every year, representing approximately 5% of the world trade. With a work force of approximately 9 thousand employees, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the canal provides transit service to vessels of all nations without discrimination. AquataPoxy coatings and grouts continue to protect and renew this critical infrastructure resource.
